What
is Well-being?
Your mother probably told you to eat your vegetables when
you were little so that you would grow up to be big and strong and
healthy.
Hippocrates,
the father of modern medicine, was quoted to say:
“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and
exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest
way to health”.
The
inventor Tomas Edison stated that:
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine
but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and
in the cause and prevention of disease”.

of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the

Your
mother, Hippocrates and Thomas Edison all had a common belief, that good
nutrition is an important part of well-being. Just as there are many words
that describe well-being, there are also many more factors that contribute
to and interfere with a person’s well-being.

The state of your wellbeing, including the
physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects, is the result of your
genetics, your environment and the condition of your body. Genetic and
environmental factors can directly or indirectly affect your body.
Imbalance or distress in any aspect of your being can affect the other
aspects. Each aspect requires the same amount of respect, attention,
response and dealing in terms of well-being.
How
do the individual aspects of well-being impact the other aspects?
The
BodyMind Connection:
Scientific studies undertaken by neuroscientist Karen Bulloch in the late
1970s revealed direct neurological pathways between the brain and the immune
system. Additional studies confirmed that the two systems communicate
with each other by chemical messages. PNI (psychoneuroimmunology)
researchers believe that emotions that affect the brain can also affect the
immune system response. Anything that affects one aspect of your being
can have a corresponding impact on the other aspects of well-being.
·Thinking
(positive or negative) can affect physical wellbeing (recovery).
·Laughter (emotional) can
promote healing (physical)
·Spiritual
and emotional factors (hopelessness, despair, grief, loneliness, lack
of fulfillment/purpose) can affect physical well-being (healing, low
(NK) cell activity).

Toxins in the physical environment can affect physical health
(asthma, heart attacks), emotional health (depression) and mental
health (Alzheimer’s).
·A
state of chronic spinal flexion (poor physical posture), chronic
disease or disability can cause devalued self-identity (emotional/spiritual).
To
promote or maintain well-being it is important to understand what factors
affect your health and why you get sick. The 'whole person' approach
to well-being requires you to look at every part of your life and how those
parts interact with or affect each other. All aspects of your being;
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual require the same attention and
respect. Remember, you were created not only as a physical being, but also a
mental, emotional and spiritual being. Ignoring imbalances or deficits
(indicated by symptoms) in any one aspect of your being can lead to serious
imbalances and health implications.

Whole Person Well-being:
If you are looking for quick
symptomatic relief without healing, this is not the wellness approach
for you. There are no instant fixes (including pills or supplements) for
total well-being. Understandably, symptomatic relief can be a
requirement during healing, but only 'in combination with' addressing
the underlying cause of the symptoms.
The 'whole person' approach to
wellbeing requires you to look at every aspect of your life and how
those aspects interact or affect each other.
The state of your health is the result of the interaction of your

Regardless of what
your condition is or whether you are living with a diagnosis, this is a very
important step. A diagnosis is based on a collection of symptoms
and/or test results that are commonly found together.
According to the Merriam Webster’s dictionary a prognosis is:
“the prospect of recovery as anticipated from the usual course
of disease or peculiarities of the case”.

When a persons
receives a diagnosis, which usually comes with a projected prognosis, they
often believe that their outcome is 'written in stone' as stated in the
prognosis. It is important that you believe that your outcome is "what
you believe it will be"!.A hundred
unique and different individuals presenting with the same or similar
symptoms and test results could be given the same diagnosis and prognosis.
Each person’s outcome may well be different.
A diagnosis and
prognosis can provide you with useful information that can be used in
customized visualizations.

Focusing your attention and seeing an image of what you are focusing on is
what is known as visualization. A manifestation of your thinking,
visualization can be very effective when used to promote healing and general
well-being. Your thinking, the messages you give your body through
visualization and affirmations, can change your biology.
Customized Visualizations for Improved Well-being
Visualizations can be customized using information from test results, your
research and answers to questions you ask your healthcare provider. From
these you should have a basic understanding of your body parts and how they
should normally function (eg. anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) and also a
grasp of the specifics of your condition. The following is an
example of a customized visualization developed using information from test
results and information provided by your doctor or your research.

Belief is 'firm conviction'. When you believe, you 'expect' that

catalyst.

Miracles”, Dr. Bernie Siegel reports on a young boy with an
inoperable brain tumor who uses visualization in the form of rockets ships

What can you do
to get the toxins out of your body?
Toxicity occurs when the
toxins we take in and those that our body produces can not be broken down
and eliminated. As we age the body's ability to eliminate toxic substances
can slow down. Damage to the body's detoxification system from various
causes can also prevent proper detoxification and lead to toxicity. Toxins
can be recirculated into the bloodstream or stored in the liver, body fat or
other parts of the body. These types of buildups and problems throughout the
body can contribute to the development of chronic symptoms, serious
illnesses, multiple chemical sensitivities and allergies. Many chemicals are
so widespread that we are unaware of them. They can enter through the foods
we eat, the air we breathe and through absorption through the skin.
The skin actually breathes, and as our largest organ can absorb a large
quantity chemicals and
VOCs
from the air around us, the water we bathe in and toxins from products used
on our bodies and our clothing. Proper functioning of the whole body
is essential to encourage detoxification. Detoxification and maintaining a
healthy body can be promoted by the following:
Drink lots of filtered water,
per day. Clean water is a priority for detoxification. Use a water filter
(like a Brita) to filter your water and change the filter often.
Use a filter on your shower head and tap as well.

Movement. Move regularly throughout your
day. ie. walking.
Eat plenty of fresh
(pesticide, additive and preservative free) vegetables and fruit. To
reduce the toxic load on the body it is important to reduce the chemicals in
our foods, and consume organically grown foods and meat products. Add
vegetable juices.
Maintaining a healthy body pH is very important in healthy detoxification
and overall well-being. Cancer is reported to not be able to survive
in an alkaline pH. The American diet tends to keep the body in an
acidic pH level. Drugs,
detoxification, disease and toxins are a few of the factors that can change
your body's pH level. Know what your pH level is. A home test pH
kit is available at pharmacies and health departments. You can adjust
your pH by choosing different foods from the
acid/alkaline forming
food charts. (from muscle response testing results on numerous
clients I have found green tea to be acid forming - try white tea )
Artificial sweeteners cause imbalances and have been
linked to cancer.
(use Stevia instead). Acidic pH can result in disease.
Limit sugar and sugar derivatives, and compounds
that can easily be turned into sugar (i.e. processed & white grain products
and alcohol). Microorganisms and cancer thrive on sugar. Excess

Eat unprocessed food.
Avoid all preservatives, additives, artificial
flavours and colours.
Avoid genetically modified foods and eat
toxin-free and hormone free
foods if possible.
Have regular bowel movements. Fat-soluble toxins
are secreted through the bile duct.
Get plenty of fresh clean air. Open the
windows in your homes and at work and change the air often if the air
quality where you live is good. If the air quality is poor use an air
purifier, plants and environmental air sponges to clean the air.
VOCs
may be present in the air you are breathing.
Eliminate negative stressors and get plenty of
exercise.
Use only “toxin free” or natural personal care (Cost

laundry, household cleaning, lawn care, home renovation and building
products.

Herbal Detoxifying Bath recipes are specifically
designed to promote the body to eliminate the toxins. Years of accumulated
toxins can be eliminated.
There are individual herbs and other ingredients
that are best suited to promote the removal of specific toxins. These
